Walk & Talk
Ongoing Collaborative Project
Collaborators: Valentina Burbano Landin
This method is an ongoing part of my MA Major Research Project titled A Slowness Revolution: Reimagining Productivity.
As a way to engage and connect with our community, we have adopted and developed a research method of walking and talking, using observations to capture conversations and interactions through the use of sound recordings and analogue photography.
By inviting our participants to join us through the wintery parks of London, we weave-in thoughtful conversations and intimate moments of reflection around the meaning of productivity, using nature as our facilitator.
As our conversations, draw to a close, we invite our participants to pause and find a tree— one that resonates with them in that moment. With a film camera, they capture the tree and then return to describe it to us.
Curiously, the descriptions often sound like reflections of themselves — as if they see their own stories and struggles in the trees.
Once the photos are developed, we have found it to be an interesting activity, matching each tree to its person.
‘Take a Break’ an ongoing short film about the wintery parks of London.
